Director Hideaki Anno has adapted the delicate original novel by Ayako Fujitani into a live-action film. A unique work featuring film director Shunji Iwai in the role of ``Kantoku'', drawn using a method that makes extensive use of poetic images and unique monologues.
STORY
``Kantoku'' (Shunji Iwai), who was successful as a film director, lost his desire to create and fell into a slump. When he returned to his hometown after a long absence, he saw a mysterious ``girlfriend'' (Fujitani) lying on the railroad tracks. Fumiko). She lives in an abandoned building and performs a strange ritual, repeating the same words, ``Tomorrow is my birthday.'' However, his birthday never comes. Kantoku becomes interested in her and begins filming her with a video camera.
